Lens Implantation (AQUA ICL)

A vision correction alternative for patients with thin or irregularly shaped corneas/moderate to high degrees of myopia (nearsightedness) and/or astigmatism.

Unlike laser vision correction surgeries, corneal tissue does not need to be reshaped for this surgery.

Check-up schedule: 1 day, 1 week (can be done locally), 1 month after (can be done locally), and regular check-ups are recommended every 6 months ~ 1 year (can be done locally).

Patients who do not reside in Korea can fly after the 1 day check up under doctor’s approval.

Instructions before and after the surgery

  • It is essential to refrain from wearing contact lenses for the recommended period before your examination and surgery. This will ensure accurate measurements and optimal results.

    Soft lenses: 5 days

    Soft lenses with astigmatism correction (toric lenses): ~10 days

    Hard lenses (RGP lenses): ~14 days

    Ortho-K (night lenses): ~1 month

  • On the day of the procedure, avoid wearing any makeup, lotions, or perfumes around the eye area. Ensure that your face and eyelids are clean and free from any residue. Unscented moisturizer is allowed.

    Do not drive on the day of the surgery. Your vision may be temporarily affected immediately after the surgery.

  • Antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops should be applied as prescribed by your doctor. The duration could range from a few days to several weeks. Oral medications may be prescribed for 3 days after the surgery.

  • Avoid rubbing or applying pressure to your eyes for one month.

    Sleeping on your back is recommended.

    Wear protective sleeping goggles for one month while sleeping.

    A shower can be taken but limit water exposure to eyes for a week.

    Avoid base make-up for 1 week and eye make up for 3 weeks.

  • Restrict sauna, intensive exercise, ball sports, hair treatments, and alcohol for a month.

  • 1 day after (mandatory), 3 days after the last check-up (mandatory), 1 week after the last check-up (recommended), 1 month after the last check-up (recommended). Regular annual check-ups are recommended.

  • Patients can travel one week after ICL surgery with confirmation from the surgeon.
